A natural Ceylon sapphire whose colour moves between pink and orangy pink. The stone is photochromic: prolonged exposure to light, or a period in darkness, gradually shifts its tone, and the change reverses.
Bellerophon Gemlab notes that this sapphire may be called "Padparadscha" in its charged state. The name applies only while the stone holds that colour; as the colour shifts back, it reads as pink sapphire. We state this plainly because many padparadscha standards require the colour to be stable, and buyers should know how this stone behaves.
The 1.427 ct cushion is evenly coloured and transparent, with strong fluorescence, and shows no indications of treatment.
Mined at Téja's own pit at Horaketiya, Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, and cut in Sri Lanka.
Bellerophon Gemlab, Paris, has identified it as a natural sapphire of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) provenance, colour pink to orangy pink, with reversible photochromism, report no. C02955, dated 8 October 2026. The report, with a 360° video, can be verified at bellerophongemlab.com.
